How to fix disconnected VMs or Templates

Issue:

One or more VMs or Templates are shown as disconnect in vCenter.

 

Cause:

This is usually caused by the mgmt-vmware service not working correctly, but could be other issues as well.

 

Solutions:

 

Method 1 – usually works and is the quickest.

1)      Identify the ESX host that the VMs/Templates reside on

2)      Restart the mgmt-vmware

service mgmt-vmware restart

 

Method 2

1)      Restart vCenter Service and/or server.

 

Method 3

1)      Identify the ESX host that the VMs/Templates reside on

2)      Disconnect ESX host from vCenter

3)      Reconnect ESX host from vCenter

 

Method 4 – ultra safe, but takes a little longer

1)      Identify the ESX host that the VMs/Templates reside on

2)      Place ESX host in maintenance mode

3)      Disconnect ESX host from vCenter

4)      Reconnect ESX host from vCenter

5)      Exit maintenance mode
