Information:
Use the following instructions to install vCenter Server to a new database or using an existing database.
1) Run Autorun.exe
2) Welcome screen appears
a. Click Next
3) Introduction and summary of VC features
a. Click Next
4) Accept License Agreement
a. Click Next
5) Accept default Customer Information
a. Click Next
6) Installation Type
a. Select VMWare VirtualCenter Server
b. Click Next
7) Deployment Options
a. For small environments (<50 VM’s) select Install MS SQL 2005 Express
b. For greater than 50 VM’s select Use and existing database server
i. Create an ODBC Data Source
1. Select SQL Native Client
2. Name: VMWare VirtualCenter
3. Server: SQL_servername
4. Select Authentication with SQL Server authentication using a login id and password
5. User:
6. Password:
7. Click OK
ii. Type DSN: VMWare VirtualCenter
iii. Type Login User Name
iv. Type Password
c. Click Next
8) Popup Message
a. The DSN points to an existing VMWare Virtual Center reporistory. Do you want to reinitialize the database and start over with a blank configuration?
b. Select No
9) License Server
a. UnCheck Use an existing license server
b. Click Browse
i. Enter location of VC license file.
ii. This licenses cannot be combined with other licenses.
c. Choose VC Edition
1. VirtualCenter Management Server
d. Click Next
10) VMWare Server Authorization
a. VC Server IP: use recommended DNS name VC server
b. Provide a user id that has local administrator rights on the server.
i. Typically this is a domain account but not a domain admin
1. example: domain\user
c. Type password for this specified user.
d. Click Next
11) Ready to Install
a. Click Install
12) Wait as VC is installed
