Issue:

When attempting to use vcbRestore on the Windows server where VMWare Consolidated Backup (VCB) is installed you receive the following message.

'vcbRestore' is not recognized as an internal or external command,

operable program or batch file.

Cause:

vcbRestore is no longer a Windows executable.  Instead it is a Linux command provided by default on all ESX 3 servers.  You do not need a VCB license to use vcbRestore.

Note: Linux commands are Case Sensitive.  The correct spelling of the command is vcbRestore not vcbrestore.

Solution:

1)      Use the VI Client to copy the VCB backup files to a VMFS3 volume

a.       You may also use an SCP or SFTP utility if you wish

2)      Run the vcbRestore command on the ESX host.
