Windows OS Post Template Configuration

Information:

After deploying a Windows OS from a vCenter Template you may consider doing any of the following.

 

1)      VMWare Configuration

a.       Change server memory configuration

b.      Change server CPU configuration

c.       Configure appropriate network

d.      Add secondary hard drive

2)      Windows Configuration

a.       Add server to domain

b.      Change CDRom Drive letter

c.       Format secondary hard drive and assign drive letter

d.      Configure static IP Address

e.       Configure small memory dump (setting is reset by sysprep)

f.        Configure swap file size

g.       Configure network settings (settings are reset by sysprep)

                                                               i.      Show network icon

                                                             ii.      File and printer sharing performance

                                                            iii.      Uninstall Network Load Balancing

h.       Format secondary hard drive

                                                               i.      Configure default permissions

i.         Schedule defrag of hard drive

j.        Configure for WSUS

k.      Add application owner to local Administrators group

3)      Applications

a.       Install Anti-virus software

b.      Install other applications as needed

4)      Backup configuration

a.       Add to VMWare snapshot scripts for guest OS

b.      Add to backup software for LAN based backups of OS
