How to Import or Export VirtualCenter Customization Files

Information:

VirtualCenter Server allows you to Import or Export your customization files.  This allows you save backup copies, make modifications, or transfer the customization files between VirtualCenter Servers.

 

Solution:

Using the VI Client do the following.

1)      Connect to the Source VC Server

2)      Select Edit…Customization Specifications

3)      Right Click a specification file

4)      Select Export

a.       Choose a folder and filename

b.      Click Save

5)      Connect to the Destination VC Server

6)      Select Edit…Customization Specifications

7)      Click the Import Button

a.       Select the file to import

b.      Click Open

 

To Change the name and description of the customization file

1)      Right click on the customization filename and choose properties

 

You will need to update the local Administrator password stored in the answer file so the new server can decrypt it.  If you don’t do this you will receive the following error.

 

“The VirtualCenter server is unable to decrypt passwords stored in the customization specification.”

 

To change the setting of the customization file

1)      Right click on the customization file and choose edit

2)      Continue through wizard and type the Administrator password when prompted.
